After the Surviving clan members regroup, the two set off on a mission to take down the new head of Hessian, blending together traditional ninjutsu with modern technology to overcome their new enemy. The Male Ninja bears a Dragon Tattoo based on the 1st Mark, and the Female a Tiger Tattoo based off the Last Mark. A Male and a Female each bearing a tattoo based around a "Piece" of the Mark that served as the Clan's greatest weapon for ages, only these tattoos were obviously not made with the Insanity causing Ink and instead serve as a status symbol among the clan given to those of exceptional skill. If the ending where the Marked Ninja kills himself before descending fully into madness is canon, then Azai dies here to give the remaining ninjas the chance to escape.Īmong the survivors are our main characters, yes, plural. Unlike last time where the soldiers, while out for revenge, still expected it to be somewhat easy, this time around they knew exactly who it was they were going after and brought a very well armed army to the Dojo, forcing the Hisomu to essentially abandon their home under the risk of dying out right then and there. I say "successor" since that offers a wider array of options in who it can be, either a relative, a close friend that worked with him and/or was included in the Count's will or simply the highest standing member of the industry that was set to take the company should the head die. Something that would be beaten into them rather handily by the newest successor of Hessian Industries, who took over the company following the death of Count Karajan and is seeking revenge for his death. StoryA few years or so have passed since the events of the first game, and the Hisomu Clan is somewhat in turmoil or just trying to regain its footing, either because of the transition from pure traditional methods to more modern ones still not going over all that well with a good number of the clan, or because of the Marked Ninja's killing of Azai and subsequent rampage leaving a good score of them dead.Įither way, following the knowledge that their former trump card in the form of their special plants is no longer around, the Clan as a whole realized that, flawed as his methods might have been, Azai was ultimately right in that the Clan would have to evolve if they wished to survive in the ever changing Modern World. Just adding levels for explaining how you got to the desert area would give you a lot of room to do whatever you want without changing the established game progression. Not technically a sequel, but if you add enough you could somewhat easily double the length without changing the story. Expand the current story without having to change what's already there (basically adding one or two levels that transition you from one current level to another, wherever they fit), add new puzzles and gadgets/outfits, add new haiku, etc. Maybe something like a re-re-master would work better? The same game, but more polished and with a whole host of new levels added in between parts that are already there. it's just trampling all over established lore at that point just to make a new-but-not-really superpower granting ink)Ī prequel MIGHT work, but it would likely be lacking the clash between traditionalism and modernism that Mark of the Ninja has going on, because either you set it only a few years prior (so everything's basically the same and why bother) or you set it a lot further back (so you're losing the modern aspect altogether). (and, I mean, part of the story is finding out there's no more ink anyway, so technically you'd have to handwave it, or do a sloppy patch job by making a 'new' ink, and that'd detract from the sacrifice you make, and Dosan's efforts, and being the last of your kind and. And that takes away a lot of the potential for another game that explores the concept, I feel. You can make new missions, new levels, new story, but the actual reveal of the MARK of Mark of the Ninja is done. The person guiding you is just a hallucination? You already know this going in. Like, the whole 'going mad from super-power granting ink' thing? That's done. It doesn't really lead into a sequel well.
